Brain Fog: It’s Real!

Brain Fog
  • Forgetting where you put the keys more often than you used to?
  • Having difficulty staying focused on tasks that used to be a no-brainer for you?
  • Losing your train of thought mid-sentence for no apparent reason?

Don’t worry; if you are a woman nearing menopause or who have had a surgical hysterectomy, it’s probably not Alzheimer’s. Instead, you are likely suffering from brain fog caused by your hormones being out of balance.

Everyone Gets Stressed out and Overwhelmed

During those times, the occasional forgotten name is nothing to worry about. But when memory loss starts to impact your day to day life, it may be indicative of an underlying problem.

Up to 60 percent of women 45-55 report memory issues. Many women just accept forgetfulness as an inevitable part of getting older, but it’s often a symptom of a hormonal imbalance that can be treated.

What Causes Memory Loss?

Memory loss caused by unbalanced hormones shows up in a variety of ways. You may experience difficulty remembering how to do routine tasks or forget the reason you walked into a room.

Often, women begin to notice these kinds of memory loss during peri-menopause when the production of hormones begins to decrease naturally. This hormonal imbalance also causes symptoms, including fatigue, insomnia, and depression.

It’s Pretty Simple

Estrogen assists in regulating cortisol levels. Cortisol levels affect the function of neurotransmitters.  Neurotransmitters are the chemicals in the brain that are used for communication.

If your estrogen levels decline, which is common during peri-menopause, the estrogen no longer properly controls the cortisol. As a result, the neurotransmitters begin to malfunction, which causes lapses in memory.

It’s Pretty Common

Roughly two-thirds of women complain of forgetfulness or “brain fog” during menopause. Up until recently, providers had no basis of proof for a large number of complaints by menopausal women regarding:

  • Forgetfulness
  • Memory loss
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Thinking clearly

But recently, two new studies have shown these complaints can be objectively detected and linked to fluctuating levels of hormones in the brain.

The First Study

The first study, performed by researchers at the University of Rochester in New York, showed pre- and post-menopausal women performed worse on tests of memory and cognition in the year after they had their last period than in the time leading up to menopause.

Their tests showed women in their first post-menopausal year performed significantly worse on tests of the following than women who had not yet reached menopause.

If you would like more detailed information about the study, you can find it in the January 2019 edition of the journal Menopause.

The Second Study

The second study, led by researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, showed the younger a woman is when she experiences surgical menopause, the more quickly her ability to remember times and places and understand basic concepts as well as her overall cognition declines.

The study also found she is at greater risk for the development of brain lesions called plaques, which have been associated with neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s- although they did not find a direct association between Alzheimer’s and surgical hysterectomies.

This study also discovered women who underwent a hysterectomy and oophorectomy, but who took hormone replacement therapy, had a slower rate of cognitive decline than women who did not take hormones.

This Is Good News

It means there really is a shift happening in the brain— you aren’t crazy or imagining things. This also means this a normal change.

If you are transitioning into menopause or are already in full-blown menopause and having memory problems, it may just be an estrogen imbalance— not signs of Alzheimer’s or dementia.

This also means that there is a solution at your fingertips: Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).

The Solution

Let’s start by reminding you that you are not losing your mind! Your hormones are simply misfiring. Brain fog and loss of memory are not just a part of life that you have to tolerate.

You can be relieved of menopausal symptoms and begin to lead a healthier and happier life. The solution is a holistic one that includes BHRT. How do you get there?

  1. First, you would need to find a provider that specializes in BHRT and who takes a holistic approach to treatment.
  2. Make an appointment and go in for a consultation.
  3. The provider will talk with you about your symptoms and run to tests to make sure that a hormone imbalance is actually the cause of your symptoms.
  4. Then they will present you with a customized plan made just for you that includes:
    • Good nutrition
    • Supplements
    • BHRT
    • A fitness program

How We Can Help

Our EvexiPEL providers specialize in this type of holistic approach to get people back to feeling normal—or even better than before. Our EvexiPEL providers love spending time with their patients.

We believe our patients should keep searching until they’re able to work with their provider to get the results they need, such as:

  • Open communication channels
  • Comfortable dialogue
  • Regular follow-ups empower

The personalized plan that we create together will cater to your specific needs. This may include multiple therapeutic methods–pellet therapy, detoxification, nutrient supplement–whatever we need to do to make you feel better.

Again and again, we have seen BHRT work for patients who are struggling with the symptoms of menopause, including brain fog, weight gain, depression, and night sweats.

What Is BHRT?

Just in case you aren’t familiar with it, let’s shed some light on what BHRT is. BHRT is a type of hormone therapy that uses hormones that are structurally identical to the substances as they naturally occur in your body. It has been a favorite for both men and women going through the aging process and dealing with hormonal imbalance.

BHRT is the natural alternative to synthetic hormone treatments that often don’t provide relief.

At EvexiPEL, we approach BHRT through hormone pellet therapy. Hormone pellets have been around for decades but were pushed aside when pills and patches flooded the market.

EvexiPEL’s tried and true therapy using hormone pellets not only addresses hormonal imbalances but emotional variables too.

Why We Use Pellet Therapy

There are several methods of delivering BHRT to your body. You can use patches, creams, or pills. Each of these methods has its issues.

They can:

  • Require constant maintenance
  • Require you to remember to do something every day
  • Be messy
  • Come with no guarantees

Pellet therapy, however, is simple and effective. Federally qualified pharmacists extract the exact amount of testosterone or estrogen needed from plant sources and compound them into our pellets.

These pellets are a little bigger than a grain of rice.  A prescribed number of pellets are injected into the fatty tissue underneath your skin, where they will gradually release hormones into your bloodstream.

It’s Natural

EvexiPEL’s approach to BHRT is superior because it’s natural. The materials used in our pellets are derived from natural plant sources. Instead of putting something synthetic into your body (which often either doesn’t work or works so sporadically that your body spends most of its time trying to play catch up), we use hormone pellets for women derived from natural, plant-based substances.

We can cater each pellet to each patient’s individual needs. This means that the pellets will metabolize naturally into your body, without causing adverse side effects.

Nothing synthetic or hard to pronounce is going in your body so you can feel safe using our pellet method.

Why Do You Need It?

Just in case you need us to repeat it because you are currently experiencing the symptoms of brain fog we’ll say it again….you aren’t going crazy. It’s just brain fog.

And even though it could be a symptom of a deeper problem—it could also be as simple as this: you are going through menopause, and your hormones are out of balance. We can help with that!

BHRT, combined with an integrated approach to your healing, is one of the most effective methods of addressing hormone imbalances or deficiencies.

One of the best ways to get back to balance is to put the hormones you need back into your body, which is exactly what we do with BHRT.

Don’t Suffer

You do not need to suffer through debilitating and frustrating memory loss that imacts every area of your life. If your symptoms are related to hormone imbalance, you can find relief.

Keep in mind, and we may also be able to alieve other menopause symptoms. Who needs to suffer from night sweats and insomnia caused by hormonal imbalances? You sure don’t.
