CLIFFORD BALL, MD

As an original native of Las Vegas, Nevada, his upbringing allowed for vast opportunities exploring the surrounding mountain landscape and recreation it provides, while also enjoying Lake Mead just outside the city. His love of outdoor activities and recreation, along with his active involvement in baseball from a young age and into college, helped drive his interests to achieve a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiological Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Dr. Ball’s desire to help others attain a healthy and active lifestyle, allowed him to continue his education and pursue his doctorate in western allopathic medicine. His excitement for adventure and new experiences was a determining factor for attending the American University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine in St. Maarten, N.A. to fulfill his studies in medicine. After successful completing two years of studies on the island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean, his clinical rotations were conducted in various settings within the United States, including California, Maryland, Illinois, and eventually Arizona.

Dr. Ball joined his Residency training program with the University of Arkansas, Southwest Area Health Education Center in Texarkana. This rural setting allowed for additional opportunities and training as an individually licensed physician during his residency years in Arkansas, becoming a crucial starting point for his career and experience with emergency medicine, that remains a vital aspect of his current interest and his clinical practice in medicine. Also during his residency training, Dr. Ball pursued his interest in musculoskeletal and sports medicine, and spent time working as a team physician for local high school and college sports teams. While also traveling to develop his professional skills for sports medicine in endurance athletics, his experience includes several world-class sporting events, including The Marine Corp Marathon, Hotter’N Hell 100 cycling race and The Iron Man Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

Of all the places Dr. Ball was able to visit during his travels and education in medicine, Arizona made the biggest impression. The desire and love engrained in him from his early years with the weather, the scenery, and the abundance of outdoor sports and activities made accessible, creating a life and career in Arizona seemed a perfect fit. During his first couple years back in Arizona, he shifted between a small upstart medical practice specializing in personal injury medical, urgent care and emergency medicine practice.

While the field of medicine allows for continued educational experiences to advance knowledge in a depth of areas, it was the time spent volunteering as medical provider in some of the toughest endurance events in the world that made an everlasting impression. Dr. Ball was ultimately inspired by the vast range of people, in both age and experience, who were competing in some of the world’s toughest and most physically demanding events. He became aware that people did not have to stop being active doing what they loved, as life continued its aging process. His calling in medicine became evident and enrolled in a fellowship program for Metabolic and Integrative Medicine.
