Gluten, Grains and Neurological Disorders Seminar
September 29, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Gluten and Your Brain
There’s no question that gluten can affect your neurological system: people with both celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity report symptoms that range from headaches and brain fog to peripheral neuropathy (tingling in your extremities). Neurological illnesses such as epilepsy, depression and anxiety also are common in those who react to gluten even if there are not signs of digestive symptoms.
Even conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are potentially symptoms of a gluten reaction. However, it’s not yet clear from the research whom might be affected, and whether a gluten-free diet can help some people.
What you will learn:
- How gluten can alter brain function and cause inflammation
- The mechanisms in which gluten alters brain chemistry
- The genetic markers that may also be important to assess in neurological disorders
