{"id":368,"date":"2018-07-02T21:07:13","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T21:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/expogroup\/2018\/07\/02\/killing-your-live-event\/"},"modified":"2019-02-06T16:36:57","modified_gmt":"2019-02-06T16:36:57","slug":"killing-your-live-event-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/c1mdevsite.com\/theexpogroup.com\/killing-your-live-event-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Killing Your Live Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Ken Dec, EVP of Marketing and Client Strategies at The Expo Group<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt='fireblog' data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"7fdd430a-2da0-4c1e-8469-5c97f6f47214\" height=\"226\" src=\"https:\/\/c1mdevsite.com\/theexpogroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/fireblog.jpg\" width=\"454\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been speaking to lots of people who really feel as though they need to reinvent their live event but struggle with how best to go about it.<\/p>\n<p>The idea that I\u2019ve found most effective in guiding them is simple\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>What competitive event would you build that would make yours obsolete?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What would you develop that would be so compelling that attendees or exhibitors or sponsors or all of them would flee your live event to go to the competitive one?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s why brainstorming how to &#8216;kill&#8217; your live event is the best approach to truly re-imagining it.<\/p>\n<p>Too often the \u2018frame\u2019 of an approach to a problem inhibits meaningful reinvention.<\/p>\n<p>If you are thinking about \u2018reinvention\u2019 you are very likely to start with a \u2018traffic light\u2019 kind of analysis of what you are doing \u2013 GREEN, keep doing that!; YELLOW- what should we monitor?; RED- we should stop doing that!<\/p>\n<p>By approaching innovation this way, you are grounding your thought process in what you already do. NOT the way to get to real disruptive innovation.
