It is the very first week of the Nava Summer of Wellness Challenge. June is, “Tis the Season to try a Vegan.” Essentially we are test driving a completely vegan diet for the entire month of June. That means not only are we not eating meat, we are not eating dairy, so no cheese for me.
I started this week strong!
I chopped, prepped and cooked all day Sunday to ensure that I would have lunch and dinner ready to roll all week long.
I bought my Sun Warrior protein powder for my morning smoothies and laid my Nutra Bullet out on the counter, ready for action.
Let’s just say that I understood how crucial being prepared would be to my success.
So here we are, at the end of the very first week and I BLEW IT!
Yes, this is no longer a blog, but a confession. I ate salmon yesterday. Now, I had salmon with broccoli, but I still had animal protein. I broke the cardinal vegan rule in my first week of trying a vegan diet. #Fail!
The reason I ran into this temptation and subsequently failed…I went out to lunch. I did not take the time before heading out to lunch to review my menu options to make sure I would find something to fit my vegan diet.
Just having your mind made up before you go out to eat can save you from yourself…believe me.
With my confession out there, let me explain why I don’t feel too guilty about my decision to eat that salmon.
Here at Nava Health & Vitality, we are not in the business of absolutes or passing judgment.
Our goal as an integrative wellness company is to educate, inform and provide options to those trying to live a healthier life.
This Summer of Wellness Challenge is intended to offer a fun way to try out some new habits, learn some great things about nutrition, and lead a healthier life by test driving a few lifestyle changes.
Making a lifestyle change takes time.
Real change does not necessarily need to happen overnight, gradual changes can be equally effective.
So, if vegan is not for you, feel free to take this challenge and make it your own!
Maybe you give up dairy for the month, or try only eating fish, or simply eliminate red meat. If full vegan is not your thing, you can still participate. Just share how you are making this challenge your own below in the comments so we can cheer you on!
But don’t worry fellow vegan challengers; I am getting right back on the horse! I am still doing this and seeing it through to the end. If I have any more lapses, you will be the first to know.
