Nava’s Summer of Wellness Challenge

Nava’s Summer of Wellness Challenge
May 22, 2014
Introducing a summer challenge designed to reinforce healthy habits, encourage new ones, and help you to improve your general health and overall well-being.
Our Summer of Wellness Challenge will begin in June and run through the end of August.
Each month we will feature a new challenge specific to that month.
We want this to be a positive experience and of course, we want you to succeed. If you decide to participate, you can expect to receive a wealth of resources to keep you motivated, educated, and on track!
June’s Challenge, “Tis the Season to Try Vegan,” begins on Sunday June 1st!
We are challenging you to adopt a vegan diet for one month. We realize that going vegan is pretty extreme. We have already been asked, “Why not vegetarian?” Here is our answer; a vegan diet is very straight forward with few gray areas or ways to mess up. Ask three people what a vegetarian diet is and you will get three different answers, but a vegan diet, well that is pretty simple.
All meat and all dairy are off limits.
All produce and fruit is on the menu.
Certain grains and cereals are okay as well.
We will feature a complete list of approved and not approved foods in your introductory email, which will feature the June Vegan Challenge Guide. The guide will include the approved foods list, a shopping guide and tips from Nava.
Now to be clear, we are not challenging you to adopt a totally vegan lifestyle, just the diet. You can continue to rock your leather bag and shoes during this challenge.
What is the point of this challenge?
We feel that this challenge will provide an opportunity to eat healthier, potentially drop a pound or so, and discover how certain foods affect how you feel.
This challenge will also offer an opportunity to detoxify your body from dairy, red meat, and heavily processed foods.
Nava Director of Nutrition, Ana Goldseker, emphasizes eating whole foods as much as possible and limiting processed foods, which includes dairy. This makes a vegan diet a great opportunity to explore a key element of our Nava nutrition plans, “To eat as close to the ground as possible.”
Although not anti-meat, Ana encourages limiting animal proteins as much as possible and adopting vegetable driven options as a primary meal source.
Lastly, if you choose to accept this challenge, you will not be alone!
As promised earlier, we will be arming you with information to help you make it through the challenge.
And, because we practice what we preach around here, Nava Events Manager, Brittany Metz, and I, will be taking this challenge with you. We are meat and seafood lovers, so this is going to be a true challenge in every sense of the word.
If you plan to join us, please email me, scoblentz@navacenter.com or Brittany Metz, bmetz@navacenter.com and we will send you our June Vegan Challenge Guide, as described above. We will also add you to our Pinterest board so that you can update the board with any great recipes you discover!
Check back here in the Nava Community Blogs, and also in the forums, for ongoing discussions, tips, and support. You can also follow along as Brittany and I share our respective experience here in the blogs.
See you at the finish line!
